Why I Needed to Blog Before I Quit Creating - Pt. 1

Why I needed to blog before I quit creating, writing is my oxygen

Writing is my oxygen

Creating has been my lifeblood ever since I can remember.

It’s my go-to for whenever I need an escape—from reality or just my own head.

But recently, I was on the verge of quitting creating forever.

I ended a small business I owned due to numerous life events and changes. My wife and I moved to a new city, got new jobs, got married, bought a house … all within a year.

All of those changes spiraled into a massive creative slump. I had completely stopped creating outside of my day job.

It wasn’t until I rediscovered the power of writing that I found a spark again.

Ever since I can remember I’ve enjoyed writing but I let go of that interest for a long time.

I discovered that writing is the oxygen to my creative lifeblood and here are 3 reasons why.

1 • Writing is therapeutic

There’s a lot going on in my head.

My brain is overflowing with thoughts and ideas.

I’ve found when I’m able to release my thoughts in a journal space it allows my brain to let go of those things—to be less crowded and overwhelmed by the weight of retaining those thoughts.

My journal has turned into therapy sessions.

It’s something I’m able to go back and visit—like a therapist—but don’t have to worry about carrying those thoughts with me everywhere.

This has benefitted my mental health drastically.

It’s extremely freeing when I sit down and write, letting go of whatever’s on my mind at the moment and not allowing myself to judge anything that comes out.

2 • Writing opens space in my brain

As I mentioned, there’s a lot going on in my brain.

I’ve found that writing opens more space in my brain for new thoughts and ideas.

It gives those thoughts and ideas a space to live externally so I don’t have to store them all inside my head.

My brain is a 24/7 idea generation factory that needs a warehouse space to store all of those ideas.

My blog will be serving as that warehouse space.

3 • I need more space to share my thoughts

I’ve been using Instagram as my platform of choice to share some of my writing.

However, the character limit is just that—too limiting for the thoughts I have to share.

I continually had to cut my captions down because I was exceeding the character limit.

That was a sign that I clearly have a lot to say and prompted a search for a platform that would allow me to write with no limitations, hence this blog.

Writing is a non-negotiable

Writing has become a non-negotiable in my life because without it I probably would’ve quit creating.

I use writing as therapy and a release for my thoughts.

Writing opens necessary space in my brain to allow more thoughts to enter.

Because I have so many thoughts and ideas, I needed more space for them to live.

I’m excited to see where this new writing platform will take me and how it’ll evolve over time.

I’ll be sharing some of the topics I’ll be writing about in my next blogs, Pt. 2 and Pt. 3.
